Deberts

A version of Belote

Belote for two: 6 + 3 cards, runs and bella, to 301

Deberts is the two-handed belote of Ukrainian and Russian kitchens and trains. Six cards and a turned-up card: take its suit as trump, or pass and name another. Three more cards follow, runs score 20 and 50, and the taker must beat the other player or be baited. The first to 301 wins.

Play Deberts online with friends

At Masa, Deberts is a game of its own right next to Belote: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

Two players (or three), 32 cards: six each, then the next card is turned up.

  2. 2

Take the turned suit as trump or pass; if both pass, name another suit or pass again. Then everyone gets three more cards and the next card is shown.

  3. 3

The seven of trump swaps for the turned card. Runs score 20 (three) or 50 (four or more) for the player with the best one, if they take a trick; the king and queen of trump (bella) score 20.

  4. 4

Follow suit; when trump is led, beat it if you can; if you can’t follow, you must trump — higher if you can.
