Coinche

A version of Belote

Bid your contract, coinche to double

Coinche is the Belote French players reach for when they want to bid: everyone gets eight cards, and the teams name how many points they will make and with which trump, from 80 up to capot. Doubt a contract? Coinche it — and the bidders can surcoinche back. Games run to 2,000 points.

Play Coinche online with friends

At Masa, Coinche is a game of its own right next to Belote: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

Coinche rules: everyone gets 8 cards and bids the points their team will make, from 80 to 160 or Capot (every trick), with a trump suit. The other team can coinche to double the bid, and the bidders can surcoinche to make it four times.

  2. 2

Follow the suit led. If you can’t, you must trump — unless your partner is winning the trick. When trump is led, or an opponent has trumped, play a higher trump if you can.

  3. 3

On the first trick, declarations are announced: a tierce (three in a row in one suit), a fifty (four), a hundred (five or more) or four of a kind (a carré). The king and queen of trump in one hand are belote-rebelote. Masa announces them for you.
