Jiji-nuki

A version of Old Maid

Old Maid with a hidden odd card: nobody knows it

Jiji-nuki is the Old Maid every Japanese family plays: instead of a joker, one card is taken out of the full deck face down before the deal, so its partner is the card nobody can pair. Draw from your neighbour, throw out your pairs and keep a straight face — you only find out which card is the odd one when somebody is left holding it.
