400

A version of Batak

Hearts are trump, calls of 5+ double, 9+ triple, to 41

400 is the bolder sister of Tarneeb 41, played in Lebanon and Syria: hearts are always trump, every player calls from 2 to 13 tricks and the calls must total at least 11. The bigger the call, the bigger the reward — 5 scores 10, 9 scores 27, 12 scores 36 — and a missed call costs the same. Call all 13 and the game is decided on that hand.

Play 400 online with friends

At Masa, 400 is a game of its own right next to Batak: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

4 players, partners sitting opposite each other, 13 cards each, but everyone scores for themselves. A team wins when one partner reaches 41 while the other has more than 0; both partners share the pot (minus the 5% table fee).

  2. 2

Hearts are always trump. The player after the dealer leads the first trick; the winner of each trick leads the next.

  3. 3

Every player calls once how many tricks they will take (2–13), starting after the dealer. The calls must add up to at least 11 — if not, the cards are dealt again by the next dealer.

  4. 4

Follow the suit that was led if you can; if you can’t, play any card — a trump or a discard. You never have to beat the trick, and trumps may be led at any time.

Frequently asked questions
