Call Bridge

A version of Batak

Calls from two: make it or one more, 8+ scores 13

Call Bridge is the card game Bangladesh plays at every gathering: four players, 13 cards each, spades always trump and no partners. Everyone calls how many tricks they will take, from two up; take exactly your call or one more and you score it, and a made call of eight or more scores 13. Miss it, or overshoot by two, and you lose your call.

Play Call Bridge online with friends

At Masa, Call Bridge is a game of its own right next to Batak: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

4 players, 13 cards each, 5 hands. The highest total after the last hand wins the pot (minus the 5% table fee); ties share it.

  2. 2

Spades are always trump. The player after the dealer leads the first trick; any card may be led, spades too. The winner of each trick leads the next.

  3. 3

Follow suit — no need to beat

  4. 4

No card of the led suit? Play a spade that beats the spades already on the trick if you have one; if you don’t, play any card.

House rules

Pick any of these when you create a table; a table that changes none plays the rules above.

  • Highest call — 8 · 13
  • Weak hands — Play on · No spade · No spade or face
