Robbers' Rummy

A version of 51 Rummy

Rob the table: rebuild any meld to lay your cards

Robbers' Rummy is German Rommé with the table up for grabs. Two packs and six jokers, 13 cards each and a first meld of 40 points — and once you have melded, every meld on the table is yours to rebuild: take cards out of any runs and sets, combine them with your own cards into new ones, as long as every meld is valid when your turn ends. Play it with the discard pile or without.

At Masa, Robbers' Rummy is a game of its own right next to 51 Rummy: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

Two packs and 6 jokers, 13 cards each (the first player 14). Get rid of your cards: lay runs and sets, add to any meld, discard one card a turn.

  2. 2

Your first meld must be worth 40 or more: A is 11 (1 in A-2-3), pictures 10, a joker counts as the card it stands for. Lay-offs and joker swaps only after it.

  3. 3

Once you have melded, you may rebuild the whole table — take cards out of any melds and lay them in new ones with cards from your hand. When your turn ends every meld must be a valid run or set.

  4. 4

To break melds up you must lay at least one card of your own that turn. Jokers stay on the table and may stand for a new card.

  5. 5

Instead of drawing you may take the top discard; it can’t go back to the pile in the same turn.
