Hand Partner

A version of 51 Rummy

Hand in pairs: partners across share the score

Hand Partner is Hand played two against two, the way the Levant and the Gulf play it after dinner: two decks with two jokers, 14 cards each, an opening of 51 and five rounds. Partners sit across and share one total; when one of you goes out the other pays nothing, so watch what your partner needs and never feed the other team.

Play Hand Partner online with friends

At Masa, Hand Partner is a game of its own right next to 51 Rummy: pick it in the games list, open a table and share its code or link with your friends, or sit at a house table. Bots fill the empty chairs, and voice chat keeps the table talking.

How to play

  1. 1

Hand Partner: two decks with 2 jokers, 14 cards each (the first player 15). Meld runs and sets to empty your hand; the lowest total after 5 rounds wins.

  2. 2

Open with melds worth 51+ in one turn; after that, meld and lay off on any meld freely.

  3. 3

Draw, or take the last discard — it must go into a new meld (or your opening) this turn.

  4. 4

One joker per meld. A run’s joker comes back for its exact card; a set’s only for both missing suits.

  5. 5

Partners: the players facing each other are a team. The team total counts, and the partner of the player who goes out pays nothing.

House rules

Pick any of these when you create a table; a table that changes none plays the rules above.

  • Wild aces — A turned card makes its suit’s aces wild; the jokers become aces
