Euchre with the Benny: the joker is the top trump
British Euchre is the game of Cornwall and the West Country, played with 25 cards: the joker, or Benny, ranks above both bowers as the highest trump, and a turned-up Benny makes the dealer name trump before looking. The dealer’s partner who orders up must go alone, a defender may go alone against a loner, and the first team to 11 wins.

Play British Euchre online with friends

How to play

Two teams of two — partners sit across. The first team to 11 points wins.

25 cards: the joker is the highest trump
- 3
Trump ranks: the jack of trump (right bower), the other jack of the same colour (left bower — a trump in every way), then A K Q 10 9.
- 4
Round 1, from the dealer’s left: pass or order the up-card’s suit as trump. The dealer then picks it up and buries one card.
- 5
Round 2, if everyone passed: the card is turned down; name another suit or pass. All pass again: a new deal.
- 6
Follow the suit led if you can (the left bower belongs to trump), else play any card. The highest trump wins, else the highest card of the suit led.

Is British Euchre the same game as Euchre?
No. British Euchre is played at the same kind of table as Euchre, but with rules of its own — see “How to play” above. At Masa it is a game of its own, with its own tables, stats and achievements.
Can I play British Euchre online with friends?
Yes. Open a British Euchre table and share its code or link. Empty seats fill with other players or bots, so a game always starts.
Is British Euchre free to play?
Yes. You play with Chips, which have no cash value: nothing can be won or cashed out.
